View Full Version : MOTION GRAPHICS + LW: Is there a way to sync Audio with Motion Channels?

Hi guys,
I am working on a motion graphics project using Lightwave.
I was wondering if there is a way to sync Audio (mp3/WAV) with Motion Channels on an object?
Or a displacement map of an Object?

I am looking forward to your comments.

Yes, in the graph editor -> modifiers...

If any use, I do it using After Effect: https://youtu.be/Tw1IJaERRFc

I wrote up a little description of what might work for you here:

Thing is, that's only a one dimensional modifier. If you want to use the amplitude at different frequencies, like those circular graphics with rays popping out dependent on different frequencies, there's no way to do that in LW currently. I've tried converting the waveform into a 2d texture animation in hitfilm, with only slight success. Could really do with a node for this.

Not sure if you can create nodes in LScript - but my Lscript code reads all kinds of wav files pretty well - maybe my code could be ported to something you are after? http://apps.photonstudios.com/downloads/waveformfitter

In the method I wrote up (referenced above), I use Audacity's (open source audio editor) Equalization tool to create a set of narrow band-pass filters for the prevalent frequences shown in Audacity's Spectrum Analyzer. The band-pass filters are applied individually to create separate .WAV or .MP3 files which emphasize the chosen frequencies which can be applied to different channels. The Equalization in Audacity can't get very narrow, and it's a relatively cumbersome process, but it might work OK in some circumstances.

A band-pass node or ChannelHandler (envelope) plug-in would be wonderful.
