A young Swedish guy, Ulf Assasson (http://www.ce.chalmers.se/staff/uffe/) has developed a new way of rendering soft 3D shadows, without long render times.

As I understand it (maybe someone else can elaborate on this) he is using the 'Cg' programming language so that the computer's graphics card (eg nVidea) will do most of the hard rendering work.

Tres kewl. The shadows in the demo looked pretty comparable, if not better than the ones in LW. And it's generated in real time.

I'm still hoping that a version of LW will come out with accelerated final rendering using the directX9/OGL2 cards out there.
