Good to know, Tomek. I recently was in a very tedious situation because of another renderfarm service that failed in handling a scene mostly made of mdd files.
I'll test your solution, hoping that I will not experience this kind of situation anytime soon !

Hi guys! Pete here from GarageFarm.NET.

We've been busy bees since the last update, and now we’ve finally released our new, v49 plugin for Lightwave.

We've added many fixes and introduced new features, so I wanted to give you a shout.

New features:

- Rendering with Lightwave 2018.0.1 – 0.4
- Rendering custom buffers sets (Lightwave 2018 - 2018.4)
- Rendering arbitrary range
- Rendering pre-cached radiosity maps (Lightwave 2018 and higher). This feature works with single and multi cached radiosity files.
- Rendering multi-format outputs - now every render output can be rendered with different format setup

Fixes:

- We fixed an issue with doubling GI setup when Kray is used as render engine. Now our plugin automatically turns off Lightwave GI for rendering with Kray.
- We blocked camera selector modifier. It prevented proper scene preparation with our plugin.
- We fixed installer issues on Mac OS High Sierra.
- Rendering without main output buffer selected is blocked.
- We rebuilt the workflow for rendering with animated image sequences ( as textures or other assets ). Now we support them as .mov files instead of image sequences. Unfortunately, a Lightwave bug prevents re-linking image sequences during the preparation of a scene with our plugin.

If you haven't tried us yet, you can register from this page and get $50 free trial credits instead of $25 with usual registration.

In case of any questions, we are on our webchat 24/7, so don't hesitate to ask.

Hi, ericals.

In case of Lightwave, the plugin list is quite long. You can check general supported apps list here:

http://forums.newtek.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=1545619

The easiest way to get information about supported plugins is to make a list of plugins you want to use and ask us on our webchat. We are on chat 24/7, and you don't need to register to use it. The farmer which is currently working will check it and give you all information.

Also, there is no problem with updating or installing new plugins for LW on our farm. If your project needs it, we can create a custom installation of LW with the exact plugins versions which you need for rendering. :)

thanks, this might be what i'll go for in the future, since different plugin versions (e.g. Dpont) work in slightly different ways.

i've been curious about Octane render farms also, but they seem to be a bit of a hassle ?
and probably much more expensive ?

Hi, Ericals.

I'm sorry for late response.

When it comes to rendering with GPU we support it with a different workflow than CPU network rendering which we support with our plugins.

We offer powerful GPU servers ( 10 x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti on each ), which we rent for hours of usage.

The expense depends on your scene and settings. With registration you get free credits for testing, so you can compare the cost of rendering of CPU and GPU projects. We have customers who choose GPU rendering because of cost and time efficiency and it seems that this is a general trend right now, so it's worth giving it a try.

If you need more detailed information, I encourage you to ask on our live webchat. We are online 24/7.

Hey Pete, good stuff on plugin updates.

I have question abotu your GPU system.

In case of rendering with LW+Octane you rent a machine/time on that machine and not actually Octane license(s) - right ? IF that is the case that means user has to login with it's own Octane license on that machine or what is the procedure?
Also what software is used to control that GPU machine over net ?

Thanks

Hi, Lewis.

Yes, we rent the servers with Windows system installed. It works as a system image, so your whole setup is saved when you leave the server, and you start from the point you left it next time.

We can't rent the Octane license, because it is forbidden for render farms. Fortunately right now moving the Octane license from your computer to our server and back is a matter of a moment We have internet connection on the servers and last Octane has better way of moving the licenses that it used to be.

For connection, we use Windows RDC. We also are working on a big upgrade of this service, with very cool features and it will be ready soon. :)

Ok thanks fo rinfo,

I'm just kinda worried about activating my octane licenses on foreign machines 'coz it's simpel typign in user/password which is then active on that machine afterward but i trust you guys (used your farm in past) so it might be good option.

Just wondering what system/MB you have for 10 GPUs in single system ? I know win10 had issues even with 8 GPUs in 1 system and sometime PLX chip on MB requires lot of BIOS fiddling/rebooting to get it working properly without BSOD.

Unfortunately I cannot tell details about our severs setup, but it works with 10 cards :) We run many tests and many customers already has rendered without problems. :)

Hi guys!

We have just released the new version of our farm plugin for Lightwave. We added new features and improved overall quality:

NEW FEATURES

- We added support for symlink workflow. This is a big update. This new assets relinking workflow significantly speeds up project preparation for rendering multiple cameras and scene versions. The assets are copied to the upload package only after checking if the they are already present on the farm.

- We support Lightwave up to versions 2019/2019.0.1

- We changed the prompt for TurbulenceFD caches - now it allows sending the scene without pre-cached files.

- We added support for .VDB assets

- We added a cost calculator to the plugin’s GUI – please note that it gives only a rough estimate and doesn’t consider the time of uploading the scene on nodes and opening it in Lightwave. The best way to get a close estimate is to run a test on the farm.

- We introduced an output path length checking procedure (output paths longer than 250 characters are not supported)

FIXES

- We fixed issues with our plugin not relinking .MDD dynamics caches.

- We Fixed issues with our plugin not-relinking objects and textures after changing names to md5 – our plugin supports non-standard characters in paths and names but it changes such characters to md5 numbers.

- W fixed an issue with Kray render elements turning off GI in a scene

- We fixed an issue with copying TurbulenceFD cache on Mac OS

- We Fixed an output issue with Lightwave 2019 scenes rendered on Lightwave 2018

If you have any questions or in doubt, I will be happy to answer you here.

How to use online render farms

Ö and save time, money, eliminate stress and maximize your earning potential with cloud rendering

Hi guys!

We recently finished our work on the article about online render farms. There are a lot of tutorials out there but there was nothing that covered this subject from A to Z. Since running an online/cloud render farm and working with hundreds of customers is what we do on a daily basis, we thought that we could help[ fill that gap.

This two part article is based on years of experience with managing a render farm and providing cloud rendering as a service - helping the customers to get their frames rendered correctly and quickly, resolving technical issues, and answering tons of questions which often share common themes.

We decided that it would be good to address them all here.

Part I - How to use online renderfarms - Part I (https://garagefarm.net/how-to-use-online-render-farms-part-1)

In this part, we describe various kinds of render farm models, overview a typical render farm pipeline, and talk about the basics of cost estimation and general preparation steps which should be considered before starting to use an online render farm.

Contents:

- Introduction
- Cost estimation
- Online render farm models
- An overview of a Cloud Rendering Serviceís pipeline
- Planning ahead Ė preparation

Part II - How to use online renderfarms - Part II (https://garagefarm.net/how-to-use-online-render-farms-part-1)

In this part, we address more specific subtopics of rendering with an online farm, like working with farmís support team and advanced testing techniques for calculating cost estimates and filtering out possible issues in rendering.

Contents:

- Why small changes to a scene make a 100% different scene
- Running Tests
- Test with a step
- Flicker/noise test
- Testing still images
- Low resolution animation test
- Time estimation and priorities

We added many useful pro-tips and illustrations to both parts of the guide as well.

I hope you will find this knowledge useful and, thanks to this article, save the resources you need for the most important part - creating awesome CG!

If you have any questions I will be happy to asnwer them here.

For instant reply please contact us on our Live Chat (https://garagefarm.net/web-chat/), we are online 24/7. :)

Hi guys :)

A little update from our team:

NEW FEATURES

- We added support for LW 2019.0.1/0.2/0.3
- Our plugin uses a temporary folder when preparing the scene for rendering on the farm - Now you can select the location of this folder

FIXES

- Fixed output issue with LightWave 2019 scene rendered on the 2018 version

GPU rendering

We have been supporting GPU rendering for quite some time with our powerful servers rented for the time of usage. After the latest update, you can work on them yourself, with the new GUI we introduced. You can check it here: Xesktop (https://www.xesktop.com/)

If you have any questions or in doubt, I will be happy to answer you here.

Hi guys!

Since our last plugin update, we have released several new versions and added quite a lot of new features and improvements.

General Lightwave \ New features

- So far it was necessary to download and install a separate installer for every 3d application we support. We reworked our tools, so now itís enough to install our Renderbeamer standalone application, and you can install and update the plugins for all the software we support straight from beamer

- We added support for LightWave 3D 2019.1

If you havenít checked our Lightwave rendering yet, you can register HERE (https://garagefarm.net/lightwave-render-farm/) with USD 50 free credits for tests.

GPU rendering

We rent powerful GPU servers with a connection via Remote Desktop. The service is called Xesktop, and we offer it as a separate brand, but it's powered by GarageFarm.NET with the same 24/7 support.
Youíll need to install your software and use your own licenses as we are not allowed to rent them out. Your system will be saved and stored intact after the initial setup and ready to use any time.

GPU servers specs:

CPU: 2x Intel Xeon CPU E5-2620 v4 @ 2.10 GHz
RAM: 128 GB
GPU: 10 x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, 11GB
NVIDIA CUDA Cores: 10 x 3584
OctaneBench 4.00 score: 2075

New features:

- You can see a preview of power usage from the servers managing board so you don't have to log in to check if your rendering finished
- You can see the size of your servers virtual system image ( the smaller it is the better performance of the server )
- You can check a cost estimate for your scene rendering with our GPU cost calculator (https://www.xesktop.com/gpu-cost-calculator/)

You can register a Xesktop account here HERE (https://www.xesktop.com/) or if you have an existing GarageFarm.NET account please use it to log in to Xesktop.

After Effects rendering

- We support After Effects rendering with our v5 plugin for After effects. Right after finishing the rendering of your scene and adding postproduction in AE, you can upload your After Effects project and render your final video on our farm. Of course you can use the plugin with any AE project you want to render, not only rendered on our farm.

- We support the whole Red Giant plugins suite ( only the CPU plugins will render on our network Ė for more information please ask us on our live Webchat

If you have any questions or doubts, I will be happy to answer you here. You can also use live Webchat on our website, where you will get an immediate response. We are online 24/7.

Happy Rendering!

Pete

Peter,

I've gotten so tired of supporting a render farm at home. I just don't have the time or energy to be my own IT guy anymore. Plus...this summer has been too darn HOT to run a farm at home.

Thanks for posting info about the free credits. I'll sign up and give your service a try soon! :)

Hi,

Does GPU calculator not work if i'm not registered/logeed in?

I tried from Firefox and from Chrome (without registration) and after i type in my OBScore 1000, rendertime 0h 10 min, 2500 frames i get nothing, after calculate button the page just resets itself back to defaults every time ?

P.S. and from Internet explorer WEB don't even work, you can't type any numbers into fields.
