Wow, that's the best I think I've ever seen for real time, and better than many motion captures.

That's impressive.. although (unless I remember incorrectly) I think a team over at Weta digital did an AI like that for LOTR (the first one) In order to be able to animate huge amounts of soldiers that behave naturally.
I think there is a video of him (the author) showing it off in real time as well, on youtube. I'll see if I can find it.

Hmm, I think his name is Stephen Regelous. And he later started (or if he sold it, can't remember) Massive something....

What is impressive about the technology is the realistic portrayal of weight. The person seems to struggle over rough terrain and has the appearance that he has to overcome his own weight to climb around. The movements in current games seem to just float around.
