Hi

Does anyone know if there is any way to merge meshes in LW like ZBrush's remeshing tools?

Thanks

John

Depends on how you want it done. The only option in LW is boolean union. If thats not what you want you can look into the metamesh plugin from 3rd power. Other options ( not inside LW ) is meshmixer and maybe blender.

Thanks I'd forgotton about metamesh. The LW native boolean union tools dont seem to have any ability to synthesize even the simplest of shapes eg a couple of cubes without generating errors and alignment of points and edges is non existant. Meshmixer isnt bad for free meshmixer seems cool but not sure how it would perform on hard edged shapes. MODO mesh fusion looks awesome but Im not a modo :-)

It Is possible with native tools, you have to remember to triangulate objects before boolean union, so I donīt get why you would get errors from the simplest of shapes? follow these steps..

Itīs shift t to triple the two meshes, use boolean union, then itīs merge points, itīs use metaform plus (old legacy folder)
Done...

That said, metamesh is way more cooler and easier it seems.

Thereīs also a free autodesk software called mesh mixer, that you can use to mix meshes, you can save out objīs and store in your own library to use as parts when mesh mixing, as i can recall it was a bit tricky to understand how to put your own parts in there..I need to revisit that, my desktop comp is down and I need to install mesh mixer on the laptop and see how that goes.

And some vids by search results for meshmixer at Autodeskīs own channel...

Oh...sorry, just noticed that you seem to know about meshmixer already.

There is also this paid plugin LWRemodeler.

Looks really good, and similar to remeshing/retopologizing in zbrush, but in LW. So if you could get a half way decent boolian, and then remesh it... It might work.
