View Full Version : Ann: Ubercam 2.6 with Forward-Only rendering option

04-06-2017, 01:32 PM

Ubercam 2.6 is now available for purchase, and it's a free update to earlier Ubercam 2.x owners.

In this latest version, I've added a 'forward only' option that greatly cuts down on your render time.

As in, you can render just the 'forward' part of a VR scene in about 1/6 the time it takes to render the whole scene. This is perfect for filler, while you're doing previs, without sacrificing quality of your forward images.

Here's a short video showing how easy it is to get Ubercam 2.6 up and running, how the forward only setting works, and I briefly preview the VR Companion, due out shortly...

BTW, if you're not on the VR train, now's a great time to hop on! You don't need an Oculus Rift or Vive to get started. You can do the actual work using LightWave and Ubercam...

This is no biggie, but should the Immersive cameras now be called VR (as in your video).
It shows as version 2.6 but with the old names.

Just an FYI

Thank you for catching that.

Yeah I missed a spot where that tag is stored. It's fixed in this next version.

BTW, I have a lot more to add than 2.7, 2.8, 2.9 will allow me to do, so I'll probably continue to 2.10, 2.11, etc. Is that super weird? It seems super weird to me.

But I don't want to get to 3.0 yet, because I have bigger plans for that.

Why not adding a number in your sequence (2.7.1) ?
That said, can't see any problem with a version number like 2.10 or 2.11 ;D

I see nothing wrong with revision numbers greater than nine. The second number is indicating a iterative revision number, rather than some kind of fractional "version number" value, that's rational, consistent, and not at all unusual.

Sorry to keep hounding you dude, is there a rough eta for the companion app :)

I just finished the last set of changes in the app.

Now I'm writing docs, then the webpage, then possibly a YouTube video explaining how to use it, and THEN, it will be available online.
