Does anyone know if an HP Elite Slice (micro form-factor pc) could be setup to run headless with NDI Connect? I'm looking for a way to have an unattended NDI input station via a Magwell USB/SDI device.

The specs "should" work based on the description of the pc, I just wasn't sure about setting up the headless operation.

Most likely cheaper all-in than the solution you described and works *very* well indeed running a super-reliable Unix based operating system (macOS).

I have a Mini on the way. Not a Mac person so trying to nail down the differences. Live Pad can you tell me how many channels of NDI can your app send over? Obviously the Mac Mini has two Thunderbolt connections, can it send both?

Would a SDI/HDMI to USB3 (Like the Magewell) be available in the future? I would like to have 4 channels of NDI to choose from on the Mac Mini with my TC Mini.

Hi Pat.

Our initial NDI Source app only does 1 channel, but we have plans longer term to offer a multi channel Pro version. In terms of performance, a fast Mac Mini with dual i7 ought to be able to encode 4 channels of NDI without too much trouble.

The BMD MiniRecorder is the ideal choice for simple single SDI/HDMI connections - cheap and reliable - and the BMD version of NDI Source only supports BMD devices. In the future with multichannel software you could also get a small PCI Chassis box and run a DeckLink Duo 2 with 4 inputs.

We also have an AJA version of NDI Source which could work with an ioXT or io4K (in the future a multichannel app could use 4 inputs from io4K).

Finally we have WebCam for NDI which uses AVFoundation which is a generalised API for video devices. This single channel app is really designed for WebCams but it also supports other AVFoundation compatible devices. A USB UVC class interface would probably be recognised by the mac built in drivers. AJA does have AVFoundation support, but frankly it sometimes doesnt work well - and hence we use the Native API for AJA in NDI Source (AJA). Some say that BMD has AVFoundation support, although I don't see it register on my machines, and again we go for the native API support for BMD in NDI Source (BMD).

No idea what Magewell offer, but there is plenty of choice from BMD and AJA on Mac.

Our development of a 4 channel NDI Source will be based on uptake of the single channel version (which has been slow so far, so we shall see how demand changes in the future).
