I recently downloaded the Free Loft Scene (https://www.lightwave3d.com/news/article/free-architectural-scene-by-peter-waldemar/) and opened it up in Layout. I didn't change anything.
So far, very few pixels have been rendered and it's been about 2 hours. Frame Time Remaining is saying 20,930 hours.

LW 2015.3

OSX 10.12.3
3.5 Ghz 6 core Intel Xeon E5
32 Gb 1866Mhz DDR3 ram
AMD FirePro D700 6144Mb

I must note that when I opened it, something about a sunsky plugin wasn't found. I told LW to not search for it.

Any ideas?

sunsky is one of DP plugins http://dpont.pagesperso-orange.fr/plugins/Sunsky.html

That doesn't sound right. What do you see in VPR? With a heavy scene VPR might take a minute or two to "think", but after that you should see something.

When I select VPR, LW basically freezes.

Here is VPR after about 20 minutes

hit p for properties, go to render globals and in the right hand column take the 'rays per evaluation' down to something like 40 and 'indirect bounces' to 2, I find that sort of thing is a big help for previewing (can always crank it up again for the render), also go to the render tab and crank up light and shading samples if they are at their defaults of 1, if there are area lights in the scene eight aught to do it.

Yep - there is some issue with your setup or install of LW. I just loaded the scene and said no to the Kray stuff and no to the 3 images or so that were missing and in about 10 seconds got this. And my machine is a 7 year old dog with only 12 gig.

Does this mean that you do have Kray as that scene requires it?

Oh...Nope, I don't have Kray.

Schwyhart, aren't you the guy...... something about Octane...... GPUs..... didn't like the idea......

I don't think so. I've got nothing against GPU rendering.

How do you know if a scene requires Kray?

Edit: I downloaded a demo of Kray 2.61 and it's still taking forever to render. @gerry_g I tried your suggestions. No luck.
Edit: The plugin that's missing is a LightHandler found with the name SK_Sun_Light...where would I get this?

SK_Sun_Light is available from the DP Website, along with SK_Sky_Light and SK_Sky_Environment...

EDIT: I went to download the scene to give it a try, and it's been deleted... :(

Link was in the second post, for sunsky

also it will not require kray, its just the render engine he used, you can just switch it back to lightwave renderer,

I beg to differ:

I don't see that as I'm against GPU rendering. Personally, I prefer to not spend the amount of money it will take to get Octane up and running.
Anyway, that's getting off topic.
