The Magma Toad Rig is a perfect example of artist collaboration. I created the model that was passed on to Kurt Smith for rigging, which was then UVd by Mike Young. That UVd model was textured by Eric Braddock that was then used in the Illustration below by Chris O'Riley.

Is it only me, but is it pure devilry if I do not add shape controllers to all my bones? Controller evaluation can be costly. I prefer lighter rigs nevertheless this is a great example, I just dont push it
this far, feels like l'art pour l'art.

I dont think there are really any rules for rigs. Its whatever makes it easier for the animator.

Every l place I have worked has had different rig requirements.

When I make rigs I place keyframes on the timeline to see the rig in action, but after a while animation takes the lead and from that point onward I am not interested in rigging anymore.
I have a short attention span.
