View Full Version : Speed Modeling Challenge #282 What Would You Include in a 1990s Time Capsule?

1. Every two weeks or so there will be a subject for you to model along with a time limit (usually 60 to 120 minutes plus 60 minutes if you're new to LightWave). You should spend no longer than the allotted time modeling. Then texture your object(s), light the scene, and post a render of your model to this thread. As in most challenges like this, your honesty on modelling time is essential. How you interpret the brief is up to you as long as the final model conforms to what is asked for.
2. Post a wire-frame and a render at 800x600 or larger. (For wireframe help go to: http://www.artssphere.com/plugins/polygoncoloring.php
3. LightWave must be used for modelling. 3rd party Plug-ins are allowed.
4. You can enter as many times as you like, posting each in this thread. If you run over the time, the model can still be posted but won't be subject to the judging.
5. Time spent on texturing, setting up a scene for a render and rendering is not included in the allocated period.
6. If there are a sufficient number of contributors, a "winner" will get the chance to pick the subject of the next challenge. Input from the community is often used in this process. If there are only a handful of contributors, they can discuss this together and pick the next topic, designating one of them to post the new subject in the Forum.
7. Have fun! This is a community event designed to encourage you to keep modeling. Whether you're a new LightWave artist or a seasoned professional, working with these tools is the only way to get better.

If I get a decent FiberFX render, I'll post that up at a later time.

Can't just judge one entry. You gonna extend the deadline?

01-31-2017, 05:06 PM
Nice. Usually we have a few others that post in time. If anyone is working on something for this challenge (or any future challenge), just post a quick reply indicating that you're working on something. It's easier to extend when we know content is coming!

This challenge aside, is half a month too short for a Challenge? There hasn't been much conversation about the duration of these since last years crash. I'm all for having a window of opportunity that encourages more LW users to get involved. If I remember correctly, I saw one drag out for almost/over a month last year and it was kind of discouraging. Having two per month seemed like a good trade-off so we can anticipate the Challenge timing. Thoughts anyone? Bellmore, what do you think about Surrealist's request? I already talked with another user who won a past challenge but wasn't able to respond in time. I could have him post a new thread/topic for the next Challenge.

It can be extended. Maybe until mid Feb. Great entry by the way.

Hi everybody,

53 minutes for modeling,

I always ask for extension but if the respected judge extends till weekend then i promise that this will be the last time for requesting and procrastinating,

I have promised myself to keep up with the speed modeling and i learn new things every time.

Let's listen to the respected judge.

Thanks in advance.

Ah, this is neat OnlineRender! love that little guy. BTW, this reply does not include batteries!
Farhad, nice mouse. Truly old-school!

Bellmore, any conclusion to this? I forget about it sometimes when it gets extended ;)

Thanks Martin,

Are you going to post the wireframe version Onlinerender?

02-24-2017, 12:37 AM
Sorry, I forgot about this one. I will end this in the next day or so. I want to see if Onlinerender posts wires. Great mouse, Farhad_azer.

03-01-2017, 06:38 AM
Sorry for the delay. I will wrap this up when i get home from work today. I was waiting to see if Onlinerender was going to post wires.

Well, it's probably time to start the new one. People lose interest if it drags out too long ;)

LOL. I'm gonna start the next challenge this week and we'll stick to 2 per month on a schedule. Every time we extend a deadline, we run into this problem where momentum drops and people stop coming back. This happened in 2016 and again this year.

Thanks Neonz for trying to keep this part of community alive. I will help you also.
