I thought this was worth a watch. Not much more I can say about it really. :)

I get the "Sorry this video doesn't exist" if I'm not logged into the forum. Here's a pointer to the same video on YouTube:

Interesting perspective on the up-front and ongoing role of the Editor in creating and writing animated films.

Editing for animation is totally different then life action. You storyboard everything and then work on the leica for a long time. All your dialogue is recorded by this time and is in the leica. That's your film. It's pretty much made before anyone animantes anything. Animating takes so long to do that you don't want to waste any time doing anything more then you need. There's usually very little spontaneity because of this but, it can and does still happen. As mentioned in the video, you can't just film a few extra takes or change a camera angle on the fly. That could take a day to a week or more for a new background to be drawn and painted and then the same time for the animation to be redone if it can't be shoehorned in. 3D is a bit better for this. You're really free with the camera compared to 2D animation. But, the frontend of the production is much heavier.
