View Full Version : problems with edges on subpatched object

hi all,
i'm trying to learn supatch modeling...
as you can see in the first image i've create an object, then in subpatch i can see the shape of circle almost "perfect"

but when i add edges for make some "panels" the circled shape become "deformed".... as shown in the second image... in the red circles...

can you help me? i would keep the form of the orange circle, and the shape of circle of the first image ...

Newly added edge loop is linearly interpolated. But you need to offset it slightly. One side to left, other side to right.
Or use tool such as SwiftEdgeLoop (http://www2.trueart.pl/?URIType=Directory&URI=Products/Plug-Ins/SwiftEdgeLoop)
It has option to try to preserve curvature, while making new edge loop.

If you will look at your model, from side view, in non sub-patched mode, there is straight line, in the middle.

What are those cuts for anyway? With SubDividedSurfaces the closer the lines/vertices are to each other the tighter the curve.

those cut are for made an "hard Surface" on the rectangular indentations

Build everything with more segments and cuts.

That is not what his concerns are. :) He wants to know how he can add that detail, make it sharp on the edges and maintain a round tube-like object. :)

There are lots of ways of doing this, but the easiest is to build your angular inside, get it right, then count the number of points you use on the circumference, create an outer cylinder with that many points, then join the two together.

Work from the complicated part to the simple part. ;)
