Ron Thornton started the careers of so many LightWave artists. A true visionary of CGI for television. Before Ron, it didn't exist..

If you haven't donated to the gofundme, please do so now. He really needs it. if you can't donate, at least share the page on your social sites!

On November 10, 2011, NewTek hosted this special discussion with VFX industry icons Ron Thornton, Chuck Comisky, Doug Drexler and Eric Hance.
Moderated by Variety Feartures Editor David S. Cohen, the panel discussed the current challenges of producing high-end, award-winning visual effects for television, while juggling increasingly difficult budgets and schedules.

Paul Biegel-Bryant and his partner Ron Thornton revolutionized 3-D animation by drilling a hole between their apartments, linking 2 Amigas, installing a new animation program, Lightwave,
and underbidding major LA animation studios to win key TV and feature film credits. They went on to form the 250-employee, Foundation Imaging in LA, creating work for Babylon 5 and Star Trek.
This brief interview of Paul was used as part of the Digital Equipment Corporation (now a part of the Compaq division at Hewlett-Packard) Alpha Processor exhibit at the 1997 SIGGRAPH convention.
George Avgerakis, Producer-Director; Edward J. Pei, DP.

Thanks for sharing. Got my chance to help. Ron is unforgettable and I got to be influenced by him all the way down here in Costa Rica. My life would not be what it is if it wasn''t for his contribution.

in my early 20's, i was heavily inspired by his work, from Babylon 5 to StarShip Troopers RoughNecks.

the funding is close to it's goal now, happy to see that. http://erikalstad.com/backup/misc.php_files/smile.gif http://erikalstad.com/backup/misc.php_files/smile.gif

thank you to all for contributing!

The 'goal' is arbitrary, anyone that's ever been (or knows someone who's been) life-threateningly ill in the US knows that the bill can soon amount to hundreds of thousands of dollars. Please guys, don't look at the site and think 'Aw well, they're near to their goal, so they don't really need my money"

Wish I was in a position to help. Ron certainly started my CG career like so many others. Not personally, just through opening every door to the CG world for us.

I don't make any money doing this stuff, but Ron was instrumental if making things click for me with Lightwave back in the day and I was astonished by what one person could accomplish with a little patience. Couldn't give a lot, but I was happy to give what I could.

Never had the honor to work for or with Ron, but several of my friends did. I am so sad about his situation.

I just wanted to say, if you grew up with Babylon 5, Roughnecks, or any of all of it, remember this; you are getting old. If you haven't done it yet, have your health checked. Try, as I am, to eat better, drop some weight, get the small crap under control (blood pressure, A1c, etc.) and live for ever. Please.

Ron created some of the most amazing things, from Dr Who to Blakes 7, with little more than a camera, paper, and glitter. Then, he remade his vision in pixels. He named the nurnie for chrizzakes!

Please help.
