View Full Version : U320 Drives on a U160 controller?

I've just purchased two Seagate U320 146GB 80pin drives.

First - am I going to have a problem using converters to use this on a 68-pin bus?

Second - I have an old Super-micro dual 1.8 Xeon motherboard with an integrated U160 controller. I purchased the system right before the boards were upgraded to have U320 controllers. Mine is supposed to be upgradable at the factory (has anyone had this successfully perfomed on their board?).

So, my question is this - would I see a significant performance increase if I buy and use a U320 card vs using the integrated U160 controller?

I'm in the same boat, and am thinking along these same lines as I need new drives but think 320's would be wiser even though I have a Supermicro with 160 controller.

Paul, I had not heard about the upgrade deal. Could you post a link to the details.

Whether it's an integrated 320 controller, or a 64-bit PCI 320 controller card, you will see improved video playback performance with more real-time layers possible.
