Hey guys,
What is the fastest AND easiest way to have lower thirds for sports (individual players and team) that will automatically display a head shot of the player and their current stats throughout the game? We need something that can be setup and operated by people with minimal training.

Thanks a lot,
Nick

Hi Nick,

I'm not the most qualified person to answer this, but if by "current stats" you mean "up to the minute" current, then you'll want data-driven graphics, meaning they change/update on the fly. For that, you would want the Advanced Edition upgrade which really adds a lot of automation functionality. You could pull stats info from a spreadsheet or other data source, maybe a scoring system. That would be the first step. There are several third-party companies making dedicated titling solutions for TriCaster also.

Will let someone else chime in that knows more about this aspect of TriCaster now.

Thanks

Here are a few options. Check them all out, as I'm not sure of the complete capabilities of these solutions.

AJT LiveBook http://www.ajtsystems.com/

Graphic Outfitters ScoreHD http://graphicsoutfitters.com/

SuiteCG https://suitecg.com/

If you are looking for something manual that you can enter the data into, my DataLink Titler might work for you. You do need Advanced Edition to be able to use this free tool. http://bit.ly/kanesworld

I would also add in CharacterWorks to that list. IF you can get an XML feed, CharacterWorks can most likely parse it and update any graphic in real time.

I just re-read your original post. When it comes to ease of use, Character Works really shines. Just like any project though, there is a learning curve. Thinking out exactly what you really want to accomplish and then developing a workflow may seem tedious at first. In the end, your operator will just need to click a few buttons because all the magic is happening in the background. Shoot me an email and I can give you some ideas once we discuss what data is available to you.

Thanks for all of the replies so far. It seems like one of the things that make sport productions look professional is the level of realtime stats and graphics generated during the telecast. Doing more with less is the biggest challenge for smaller producers.

If anyone has some YouTube clip examples of this sort of thing that they or their clients are using, I'd love to see them to get a better of idea of what's possible.

Thanks a lot,
Nick

Here is a basic idea of just some of the things you can do with Character Works. Yes we sell it. Yes we use it. Yes it is really cool...
