Just a teaser note..

Since we need to fuel these forums again with tips and tricks etc, I will try and put up some more tips on how to fracture simple box or simple objects and them turn those in to rock pieces at a medium stone sizes.
I will be using the old crackit plugin for lightwave, and also using blenders cell fracture to fracture the pieces, then export back to lightwave for metaforming (wich you could do in blender too), additionally making them all parts object and use bullet to dynamicly spread them a bit on the ground, it could also be used later for instancing as groups or as individual stone pieces after you have save the transformed object.

The fracture tool that was implemented natively in lightwave modeler will not be used though, it has some bad algorithms for this to work properly when metaforming etc.

Might be showing some blender sculpt as well.
Not today though ..maybe monday.

Cheers
Michael

hey - how did you make the about this site jumpgate section of your website the wavy nexus lines -
reminds me of a fusion plugin thats no longer around vlan or something.

i seem to recall when you were making these things with millions of particles.

can you run through how you made them again =)

Yes...I used ligthwave particles, around 3 millions of them, tiny tiny hv sprites (not hypertexture on them) and it was a simple emitter..in this case rather flat with a 0 scale in the z axis.
The motion that makes up the ending image, was made by using procedural textures in the emitters velocity tab/ channels.
I also used after effects for a slight turbulence effect, not much and then some additional glow color correction there as well.

If you really want to use blender for this, take also a look at the blender fracture modifier custom builds here:

Sure LW own tools aren't 100% perfect, but I would not dismiss them...

Yes..I mentioned blender fracture which I will showcase later for makin stone/rock parts, but I didnīt go in to deeper with any of the addons, I know they are out there but not sure it is necessary for this type of content...however, that is interesting for more advanced stuff and fractures to use with explosions etc.

regarding lw tools not 100 perfect...well, I wouldnīt use the native fracture..that one I am dismissing, they canīt be used for a case like this..they do not produce clean fractures that you can metaform properly, which is needed for the intended use rock stone creation...the lightwave crackit plugin works though..so that it countable, and the blender native cell fracture works to as mentioned.

ok, makes sense, interesting to see what you come up with.
