My first question on this new forum.
My question is about image files in an sIBL-Collection i have.
Im using a background image from the "sIBL-Collection" Desert_Highway [Road to Monument Valley] which is wrapped around a globe object and looks very nice.
There is another image in the same folder called "Road_to_MonumentValley_Env" which is an out of focus/fuzzy version of the original image.
Is this fuzzy version there to provide enviremental reflections on any objects within a scene or is it to do with lighting the objects in a scene.
Either way were do i place this image and what effect can i expect to see.

While ive mentioned lighting there is another question.
The default lighting in Lightwave casts very black and sharp edged shadows.
How do you make the shadows less black/more transparent and have softer edges.
Thanks for any info in reply.

The SIBL loader does it all for you, download that and install it would be best advice (should find a LW version on the site) but in answer to what you asked the blurred image is your light probe or global illumination and is loaded into Background Options- Texture Environment, the JPEG is the visible image you map to your sphere as a background with 100% luminosity and the Sharp HDR is your reflection map which is used per object surface in the Texture Editor, Environment tab as a spherical map, but honestly just download the loader

Your mentioning of the 'The SIBL loader ' promted me to search my system.
It turns out that i already have ALL the The SIBL files [downloaded ages ago]. I had at that time separated the dome
object and background images to my background images folder.
There are also sample scenes and one of the scenes is the Desert Highway.
Opened up this scene file and as you say all images files are already in place and objects in the scene are nicely lite.
Now i see were secondary images are placed and what they do.
Thanks for info much appreciated.

Where's the latest version of the SIBL loader?

http://www.hdrlabs.com/sibl/software.html

Your question could be refrazed as .."the page of the original sbl and updates are broken and only the one on the hdrlabs is available?"
Did you notify hdrlabs about the broken link?

It Seems the edenfx page has expired four days ago, and is pending renewal or deletion...

its in the developer forum – http://www.hdrlabs.com/cgi-bin/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1316465879 – the yellow text that says - Download Build 182 here - works on Mac for LW 2015.3 64bit and I presume Windows too

The main point of this post is to let you know that if you have downloaded the main software
then you can use the Dome object that comes with the software seperatly as this dome object
is already preconfigured to recieve the sIBL images.
Here also is the direct link to the sIBL Archive of free images

http://www.hdrlabs.com/sibl/archive.html

Also look out for the image update pack file on there site. [Right side/second box from bottom].
