He always seemed like a good chap and straight shooter. I think the Foundry will miss him - he was good for Modo.

Yes it is sad that Brad is leaving. Brad always made you feel like you were at home and don't forget his time here at Newtek many years ago.

Not really so surprising, when you consider how long he's been there. From what he said about where he was going, he's just looking to start something new, and his role at The Foundry probably had him a lot further away from "the trenches" (where he seems to enjoy being) than he preferred. From the sounds of it, what he's doing will allow him much more of an opportunity to be "technically involved". It's a pretty common occurrence among certain personalities of tech execs here in the valley to move on once they get too far from "the action".

He's making his exit on a very positive, successful note. He'll definitely be missed, but all things considered, both MODO and The Foundry are in pretty great shape, so if he wants to go, the timing is about as good as it gets to do so.

Brad's master plan is to escape and kidnap Allen and Stuart on the way out and start a new 3D company. Now that would be cool! Oh, wait...

He talks a bit about his plans in his announcement at the MODO forums (http://community.thefoundry.co.uk/discussion/topic.aspx?f=3&t=124511).

Wow... that was a surprise. But one that I can relate to. Now that I am in the same boat as he is. I am also starting up an indie business. And learning proper VFX as well (something I always wanted to do) I would hate to grow old, and sit there being bitter.. and regretting things I didn't do.

Shocking news indeed. Did he get bored working on modo?

Brad did not technicallly work on Modo as he is not a programmer. He is more of an action, idea, marketing guy hence his desire to be more entrepreneurial in spirit again.
