Another vote for Princess Mononoke and The Incredibles.

If you like satire, I think the 1979 movie Being There with Peter Sellers is one of the best movies ever. Not for the non-stop action movie crowd though...

And The Princess Bride is definitely on my top five list.

10-28-2016, 04:04 AM
Okay why not. Some films are simply perfect and iconic and belong on lists.

The Taking Of Pelham One Two Three (1974)

The French Connection
It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World
The Apartment
The Party
The Great Race
The Innocents
American Graffiti
That Thing You Do
The Asphalt Jungle
Rosemary's Baby
Salesmen (1968)
Grey Gardens (1975)
Capturing The Friedmans
Dirty Harry
Broadcast News
When Harry met Sally
Barry Lyndon
A Clockwork Orange
Dr Strangelove
Eyes Wide Shut
Sunset Boulevard

Swept Away
Howl's Moving Castle

Inland Empire

The Producers (1968)
2001 A Space Odyssey

They make my list because I can watch them over and over and its always like seeing them for the first time. You could probably add another twenty to that list. I really need to check out "The Princess Bride", it has such a reputation.

10-28-2016, 05:47 AM
spot the baby boomer me thinks, do you still wear your flairs and tie-dye T- shirt when you watch them (I'm sixty three and I know for a fact most of your list was released before I even hit forty)

Three enthusiastic thumbs up for that one. I also highly recommend Pulp Fiction. Both are on my "watch many times and always enjoy afresh" list.

10-28-2016, 07:37 AM
A theater not too far from where I live does "TNC." That stands for Tuesday Night Classics. They play older films for 5 dollars. As a loyalty member to the theater, I also have a tshirt and a cup that I buy once a year for a reasonable price (given the amount of times I visit the theater) that gets me a free medium popcorn and a refill on the cup for $1.50. So, during the year, I can see these "classics" on the big screen with snacks for $6.50. :-)

A couple of weeks ago, they had Aliens playing and I have to say that it was a joy seeing that on the big screen and I have to say the experience is much better than seeing it on any fancy TV, no matter the size. My g/f and I also saw Jaws recently and Terminator 2. If your local theaters do anything like this and you haven't seen a certain favorite on the big screen, do it. It is an enjoyable experience.

I had not seen Aliens in the theater since its theatrical release 30 years ago... I was 15.. Seeing it again was a thrill despite the countless times I had seen it on video.

That is one of the cool things about VR. You have have a theater-like experience in the comfort (or discomfort) of your own home. However, until they get the weight down and resolution up, the real thing still wins. :-)

The Princess Bride is special, alright. Off the top of my head I'd add honorable mention, in no even faintly sensible order and for various unrelated reasons, to Jurassic Park, Ghandi, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Secondhand Lions, Bullit, The Graduate, The Blues Brothers, The Verdict, Cool Hand Luke, In the Heat of the Night, and of course the original Star Wars.

10-28-2016, 08:07 AM

I'm a decade younger, but I really can't look at mood grading anymore, or listen to lens-flares being sound designed, or suffer camera moves that defy the laws of physics. Every now and then a gem can pop up though and Television Drama is vastly superior to anything I grew up with.

10-28-2016, 08:36 AM
As a side note on Reservoir Dogs, most of you will not have seen the much more accomplished City on Fire, a 1987 Hong Kong crime film written, produced and directed by Ringo Lam,Tarantino's 1992 film Reservoir Dogs rips off several of its key plot elements and scenes, most notably the famous Mexican standoff, also the film has the kind of raw energy and excitement that Tarantino could never match in a million years

10-28-2016, 11:30 AM
Life of Brian
Pulp Fiction
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
A Man for All Seasons
Seven Samurai
Once Upon a Time in the West

04-15-2017, 06:48 AM
I've been wanting to watch Office Christmas Party because Jason Bateman and Jennifer Aniston are part of Horrible Bosses movie. And also I like the guy who plays Steiner (in She's out of my league). 06-06-2018, 12:24 AM
Necron??? NECRON????!!!!!

06-06-2018, 07:09 AM
She was the best things about it!

I was sad that in is instanced Houdini complexity

that the screen was overstuffed & the leads where dire.

I so much wanted watch a graceful film after 5th element mold,

But this smell of CGI panic, & should used Thierry Mulger for cosi's as

Gautier was used in 5th element previously.

B.O. $ on this tanked & has nearly brought down his studio's.

Great Shame.

06-06-2018, 07:22 AM
Right On Nik,
M M Fury Road revisited by the same director after a long

time created a fresh scary & believable dust- world with great legends,

laughed and loved every Impressive minute.

Where Ghost in the Shell shows the way to subtlety weave complex

cgi into tension, there is nice houdini particle to mesh volume in it.

I had mixed emotions about it, for it was everything I wished for in a

'Neromancer' William Gibson (which was never filmed) sigh!

Perhaps never will due to the huge lifts of plot Matrix bit out of it.

Sc-Fi in film has been work for me but also a love/hate relationship of

outcomes , much of it is a Hollow-Church, but then again?

06-06-2018, 07:33 AM
Okay i'll through one at you,

 Hellboy (the first) Del Toro's masterpiece!

Such a realisation of Mignola's great draughtsmanship mixed with a great

lead actor channelling Dirty Harry in Red. Seamless from start to finish.

Even the cheesy Barry Manilow pissed song fits comfortably inside the remit.

( I hope he gets to do a budget 'Mountains of the Moon ' soon? )

p.s. His Shape of Water as was pretty damn good recently.

06-14-2018, 04:56 PM
Yes !!! Necron is evil !!!

07-03-2018, 04:53 PM
Just watched the Incredibles 2. Not bad but I like the first one better.

07-28-2018, 03:17 PM
I just watched something amazing !!!
I have been watching old episodes of Deep Space Nine, back to back.
I just saw episode 6 of season 5. The defiant goes back in time, right when
Captain Kirk encounters the tribbles problem. The deep space nine crew
interacts with Captain Kirk and his friends !!! They used original footage
of captain Kirk and his associates, and blent it with the new actors
from deep space nine. The video is so good, it looks like captain Kirk
really interacts with the deep space nine crew.
I was so amazed !!!
Great work !!!

07-28-2018, 10:06 PM
Haven't seen that one in awhile. Great episode.

07-29-2018, 07:00 AM
I Just watched fire and ice....

Initially I thought that was the documentary about John McEnroe and Björn Borg:D
But you then described it as something else..and of course it doesn´t fit the Cinematic profile.

It was a good documentary though if you by any chance were witnessing them play with their rivalery at that era.

09-28-2018, 06:25 PM
I started watching Trigun anime. I love it very much. I started learning to create 2d anime art.
I found out in trigun, that the kitty cat that appears regularly in it is so simple and easy to draw
that even I (a 2d beginner) can draw it. Much of the animation in trigun is very amazing and hard for
me to create, but some of it, like the kitty, I can do. This is very encouraging to me, it means even
when starting I can create part of a real anime show. I am very happy, and pumped to master the
art of 2d/cartoon/anime.

10-21-2018, 07:18 PM
I just watched the final 2 episodes of the last season of star trek deep space 9.
I just thought the animation was amazing on the space battle between the Dominion forces
and the alliance. So amazing !!! I loved the space battle !!!

11-08-2018, 05:00 PM
