In response to a challange brought up by Oliver: https://vimeo.com/171477065

Came up with a WindFX setup in layout for particles that then with this plugin ( http://www.vuescripts.com/_A/index.php?aid=51 ) can be made into curves into modeler.

Files here: http://bit.ly/2a13jFL

I use 3rd party nodes like:
DPKit
dbwtools
AS Math nodes
TrueArt Node Library
Pom nodes

Be sure to get them first.

Cheers

PS: I hate sims x)
PS2: And the forums are back up! ;)

Very interesting. Thanks for sharing.

I see a cool C4D video, but no challenge as such?

C4D tool still better and faster I think :)

There's also this Houdini one! https://vimeo.com/174877315

I think you misunderstood. :)

What is the challenge?

Can those lines "get loose" and serve as guides for FFX or something??

Dunno... Play with it :P

I know that this can be converted to curves as probiner also says in his first post..

so it can be used for fiberfx or making pipes, even sent to blender and run skin modifier and you get a root system.

dunno?

You said yourself it can be converted to curves...and of course you can use fiberfx on curves or turn them to fiberguides, so of course it can.

hereīs another plugin ..though I donīt think it is exactly the same..

used splotchdogs plugin for this..though with my knowledge now in blender, I would rather us skin modifier in blender than metaballs here, if you would want fiberfx..that works too.

1. particle emitter and wind to rotate a few particles.
2. save out particlefx motion.
3. running a free plugin to create polychain from particles.
http://www.splotchdog.com/index.php?o...
4. save out as transformed object-
5. load in modeler and select all edges, copy and paste to another layer.
6. convert to metaedges, set metaball resolution etc.

How many times I've used FFX: 1 when it came out just to check it. So I don't know FFX requirements or wokflow...

Oops..my bad then, it explains it :)
itīs just basics..if you can create a curve or polychain, you can do fiberfx or pipes etc...thought you knew that polychains can be used by fiberfx, and if you can make a curve you can convert it.
Fiberfx using curves directly is also possible in the later lw versions, the question is...will it crash? :) thatīs one of the major issues when dealing with curves, chains or strandmaker or copied edges from modler etc, usally it may be best to turn any curves edges to a chain with strandmaker..but I got issues with that too.

Get the lines flowing on the surface of other meshes.

My question was more "get the lines OFF the mesh, but anchored to it."

Pour moi, the Houdini example is meh, while the C4d (???) example is amazing.

I do think using hawt dancers' bodies (mocapped) is a bit stacking the deck, --would we like it so much on a more neutral mesh? Say, a gazelle or a lion?
