View Full Version : Flocking generators can't be animated?

How come a flock generator can't be moved around to dribble flocking agents out over the course of a shot? When I try it all the agents sit at frame 0 (where the generator was created) and are slowly released even if the generator is animated and moves all over the place.

Is there a way to animate the generator and have the flock sense this? As it is they all sit in an invisible "waiting room" that goes nowhere until their time comes to fly.

A thought: use a particle system to feed your flock. I would think that would get you what you want.

I agree. I will try that today at work. Flocking is nice as it is variable, but I am only path flocking. And the same thing could be done with particles. They can also be varied so that each particle acts differently like running bugs. Flocking is nice in LW but it really does need improvement like being envelopable and having flock emitters emit while moving/animated. I'm sure that's a next step for the dev team and they are way ahead of me.
