Wow! How very Blender-like.

I wonder how continued development is funded?

There do seem to be some YouTube tutorials ...

It's great! However, anyone installing OpenToonz must realize this is based on Studio Ghibli's version, which is completely biased towards their paper-based workflow - which means the paperless tools are obscured/hidden.

This can be fixed by creating your own Animation room, explained here:
https://vimeo.com/160517233

Or by downloading and installing the configuration files here:
https://github.com/opentoonz/opentoonz/issues/80

This is the full Toonz Harlequin, albeit with a missing room editor. The same user (blurymind) also recreated the original Harlequin's shortcut keys: https://github.com/opentoonz/opentoonz/issues/56

The Harlequin manual can be downloaded here:

Anyone contemplating Toonboom Harmony ought to reconsider - functionality is pretty much on par, although Toonboom does have more paperless options. The x-sheet in OpenToonz is GREAT to work with - much better than Toonboom, in my opinion, as is the function editor. The Flash-like timeline in Toonboom I never liked myself - too finicky. A number of users have reported crashes, but so far I only experienced two in the last three days. The muti-monitor support is brilliant.

This move will likely disrupt the animation software market to a degree - for example, Cacani, well known for its automatic tweening between drawn frames, may feel the hit, since OpenToonz offers a similar tool (and according to Opentoonz testers it seems to work as well as Cacani's version).

And I personally see no reason why any freelancer indie, or hobby animator would choose to work in Harmony Essentials or Advanced (or even Harmony), when OpenToonz is available for... FREE!

Still, Harmony is the standard in many studios. That might change in the future ;-)
