Anybody know of a way to create metaballs from a text file containing coordinates?

oh my god, I read Meatballs. Ha. What kind of text file? Can you use PDB reader? It's used for medical files to be brought in with coordinates in a specific way

forget about metaballs as the initial approach, metaballs are just point..which then converts to metaballs, the thing to ask for ..can you get a point cloud from your coordinates in the text file?
I am sure there is a way...but I do not know anything about it up front like that.

The .obj file format is a very simple text format. In the past I have found it very easy to format a list of coordinates using Excel and Word to put the commands in the proper place. For metaballs all you need is points so just put a "v" in front of each coordinate with spaces separating the xyz values. Save the text file with the .obj extension. In modeler use the convert mataballs command on them.

The PDB reader / importer for modeler claims in the prompt it can open a text file. Give it a shot! https://www.lightwave3d.com/assets/plugins/entry/pdb-reader/

I don't mind formatting an OBJ file, but I also need to set the size of the metaballs, so creating them from points may not be the options.

I donīt think there is no chance in ...to set metaballs size within the txt file.

Why would points be of no option? you can edit the size after you convert points to metaballs., but depending on how many points, individual sizing would be a mess when trying to select the smaller handles ...which controls the size of each metaball point, editing size of all of them is easy.

you need to stand in polygon mode, w for the statistics panel, select the + sign for the metaballs, then construct/edit metaballs, then you should get all the handles, to size all of them and inluence..hit numeric panel to bring that up.
