Any idea what to do with it on a mac?

All I get is a generic file that cannot be run or expanded.

Yes I've downloaded, but it's got no extension on it, is it a sit, or a zip or what? Try opening it nothing happens?

suggestions?

Cheers,

Lord

Same problem here. Has notified Tech Support. NewTek should have tested the download first. A bit amateurish.

Is the patch only OSX?

Apologies folks, we're checking with the web team and engineering staff to resolve this as quickly as possible.

Anybody know the extension for MindVision"s VISE installer??

That's what the file is....so maybe it will work with the correct extension.

I tried adding ".img", ".sit", ".zip". etc. Nothing works. I hope they can get this working soon. Anyone out there find a way to get it to work?

Installer vise is an application.

Most likely, the resource fork has been stripped out of it.

I just had a look on VersionTracker for an OSX resource editor to try and fix the bad LW 7.5b update. But for some strange reason I can't find any that work. So if someone has Resourcerer try adding the Installer vise resource to the mac update. Please.

I would love to try this update out before the weekend as it's friday noon here in Australia.

Hi, folks!

We're still working on getting a proper file posted for the Mac update this evening. Again, apologies for the inconvenience and the extra wait, we did make an error in the file handling, and we're getting that corrected.

If you have the developer tools installed, run "Developer/Tools/GetFileInfo <file>" from the command line to view type and creator codes. Use "Developer/Tools/SetFile -t <TYPE> -c <CODE> <file>" to set the type and creator codes.

I tried setting the filetype and creator codes to match the VISE installer (APPL/VIS3). No luck.

yacko!

I had the same problem when trying to download from my browser (safari). I was able to have success by downloading it with Transmit.

Thursday at around 11:30PM I downloaded the ".sit" file and installed Lightwave 7.5b. I ran Modeler and Layout, loaded objects & scenes and the new plug-ins.

Looks like it's good to go!

I don't know if there are many Lightwavers still using OS9, but Ricki posted a message in the Community section of this forum to say that it screwed up his previously working copy of Lightwave.

I installed it in OS X. For some reason it caused some permission errors with other programs. The other programs were then unable to save to the hard drive.

It was fairly easy to rectify. On the OS X install disk, I ran the Disk Utility and selected "repair permissions". That resets it all back to normal.

Everything works fine now.

To answer my own question, its with the PC download, not the Mac.

Try re-importing your plugins. I still have all my formats available.

URGENT THOUGHT

I just realized as I was going through the update, if you have multiple LWSN versions on your machine, you need to replace all your old duplicates with new onces, since LWSN has been recompiled in this update. I don't know if there are any improvements to LWSN specficially, but better to be safe than sorry...

Made the upgrade....now the light levels in old scenes have spiked. Back to 7.5 for me.

I started on something yesterday and since updated LW. When I was back at it today, I did think it was brighter. Hmmmm...

OS X: Why are there now the old (OS 9 and earlier) MEMORY settings in the "get info" dialog, for 7.5b Modeler, Layout, and the Hub?

This is OS X! We don't need no stinkin' Memory Settings!

It just doesn't make any sense. I really don't get shy they would do that.

But I'm thinking very strongly about going back to 7.5!!!

Michael

Those don't do anything, those settings only effect carbon apps when opened in classic, which you can't do anyway with these perticular apps.

Just ignore them.
