View Full Version : Strange render artifacts on seemingly clean geometry. Ideas?

So far as I can tell this geometry is completely clean, even trivially simple, but it's giving me weird render artifacts. Does anyone have some ideas as to why this is happening? I'm using a standard "velvet" material preset but the artifacting happens even with a basic texture.

I even tried deleting all of the lower shirt polygons and re-extending from scratch but no change.

Thanks in advance!

Screen-shot is from VPR. Is the same in F9 render?

Tried playing with Obj Properties > Render > Shadow Offset?

What if you switch light to different type?

Yes, same in f9, and playing with those settings seems to have no effect. Here is the scene.

After dragging Shadow Offset to >100 mm it's gone. After turning RayTrace Shadows in Render Globals off, gone. So it's shadow.

After turning Surface Editor > Advanced > Compatibility 8.5 to Default or 9.3.1 it's gone. Or hidden at least. I was just watching VPR/F9 quickly.

Strange. I moved offset as far as 10m and no change. Thank you so much for looking into it. I'm away from my computer right now but will try your ideas soon.

Thanks again!

Yeah, definitely operator error. I took my time going over the settings this time and it's all good now. I should never try to fix a glitch when I'm racing to get out the door.

Many thanks!

I've never knew such a thing exists after all those years... Thank you, Sensei.
