Our tiny indie studio has officially launched the Windows PC version of Prominence, our first-person, point-and-click science-fiction adventure game.

More than 95% of the art in the game was built/rendered in LightWave (9.6!) with some help from Photoshop and After Effects. More than 65,000 images were rendered, totaling over 100GB. Like many point-and-click adventures, the art is all pre-rendered.

Reviews in the gaming press are quite good so far (AdventureGamers.com (http://www.adventuregamers.com/articles/view/29628), HardcoreGamer.com (http://www.hardcoregamer.com/2015/11/16/review-prominence/177448/), IndieGames.com (http://indiegames.com/2015/12/epic_sci-fi_adventuring_with_p.html)).

Here's the nickel tour of the gameplay and features. It shows some of the objects, environments, and animations. Itís from our Greenlight campaign on Steam, but it kinda ended up everywhere, including PCGamer (http://www.pcgamer.com/prominence-atmospheric-first-person-adventure-out-november-6/).

I used Matt Gorner's Animated Limited Region script a lot (with Ken Nign's Info Saver Script and some workflow tweaks (http://forums.newtek.com/showthread.php?115276-Free-Script-Animated-Limited-Region&p=1274706&viewfull=1#post1274706)), Worley's FPrime (for previews), a good dose of IFW2/Nodal Textures, and a bit of LWCAD (thought I'd use it a lot more, but it didn't work out that way). Also used a few plugins from TrueArt, Pictrix, Mike Green, Denis Pontonnier's DP Kit, a few renders with UberCam, and many free scripts and plugins from the amazing LW community.

If you're interested in the story, just say the word and I'll post some details. You can also see more at the official site: ProminenceGame.com (http://www.prominencegame.com).

This was a passion project developed over several years. Now that it's complete, I'm excited to (finally!) jump into LW2015 and try out all the new stuff.

Happy to reply to any questions, and feedback is most welcome. Thanks! :)

You're welcome! Thanks for the tools! I put both you and Denis down for donations through your respective sites because you guys do so much for the community and you give away so many helpful goodies. Hopefully it'll be in time for the holidays!

Congrats on the release. The game looks amazing. I can't imagine how much work went into this, especially the story and game play portion. It must have been a challenge to create the game flow while figuring out all the different puzzles. I got goosebumps watching the preview clip because it took me back to when I got Myst for Christmas and spent hours trying to get through that game.

Nice...Nice graphics, and I like the concept, the idea of colonization or exploring alien worlds etc is something that is appealing to me, though I am not a gamer really, so not sure I can find it in me to have patience with it..but I have to say that I like the game idea, upon first look it might not be that advanced in reality interaction...maybe in future version, on the other hand it may not be necessary.

Looks awesome! :+) I love that old-school puzzle-game format. I bought it, but had to get a refund: no Mac version. :-(

This reminds me of a game I used to play called, "The Crystal Key"

Thanks for all the kind words! You guys know better than anyone how much work went into the art for something like this.

Sorry we don't have a Mac version for you guys (yet). We had to start with Windows PC version. I know many LWers use Macs nowadays. If the game does well, we'll be able to fund the ports to iOS, Android, Mac, and Linux. Time will tell!

Looking through the concept art, I notice some of this was done in 2006. That's dedication. You did a great job bringing it to life!

Wow! Thank you for the kind words and the shares. As indie developers, we need all the support we can get!

If anyone is interested, we just released a new Developer Chat today. Two-time Clio Award-winner Tom Griffith and I take an extended coffee break to chat about the Prominence soundtrack development, the origins of Old Letarri for the choir, the foley sessions, the voice-actor casting/auditions, and more.

https://youtu.be/-N0_WfDiM6g

We have a Dev Chat about the art that's already recorded, where I sit down with one of the concept artists. We'll probably release it during or just after the holidays. It swims a little bit closer to spoiler territory because it digs into design of various areas in the game, so we wanted to delay it a bit.

Hi there, I have 2 questions. Will it be available through steam only ? Do you plan to release a demo vesrion ? I'd like to try it on Mac through Wine/Wineskin.

Currently, it's available in English and German (subtitles) on Steam (http://store.steampowered.com/app/270230), the Humble Store (https://www.humblebundle.com/store/p/prominence_storefront) (Steam key + DRM-free), and through the official site (http://www.prominencegame.com) (Steam key + DRM-free).

It would indeed be interesting to see if it runs through emulators. I'll have a chat with the team to see if we can put together a prototype/demo for something like that.

Ha! Looks like the jokes on me.

I started a new post because it looked like this one disappeared from my list of subs/posts, but (apparently?) it's still here. Doh! Pardon me while I go clean up the mess.

Meanwhile, we posted a new trailer that includes some press quotes.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5EJ7RAeBS8
We used motion tracking in AE + one case where text was added to the LightWave shot. (Can you tell which press quote in the video was rendered directly in LightWave?)

Prominence was selected for IndieGames.com 'Best of the Year' list for Best Visuals (http://indiegames.com/2015/12/2015_staff_picks_best_overall.html) and for Top Picks: Adventure Category (http://indiegames.com/2015/12/2015_staff_picks_genre.html). It was also nominated for 3 Aggie Awards (http://www.adventuregamers.com/articles/view/29957) (Best Writing: Drama, Best Gameplay, and Best Sound Effects).

Thank you for all of the amazing support!

This looks intriguing, especially for an avid RPG lover like me. Is there anywhere I could find the minimum system requirements since my GPU is pretty bad?

I played the game a few years ago on my old computer with a very weak geforce card and had no issues. If I remember correctly everything is pre-rendered and you do need much 3D horsepower to play it.
I found some minimum requirements on steam, older integrated chips may be an issue:

Hey Art, thanks for the minimum requirements

My GPU is that bad that I actually won't be able to run it. Although, it was due time for an upgrade... I'm quite awful with tech so do you guys have any recommendations on super-budget graphics cards? :compbeati

Looking at some budget options (https://gamegavel.com/best-budget-graphics-card/) and I'm thinking of picking up Radeon RX 570. Many of the top 10 articles that I go through mention it as a great value for money option. Thoughts? Also, this reddit thread about cheap graphics cards (https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/aokdho/best_budget_gpu_for_2019_500/) mentions it.
