Anyone know of a plugin for LightWave to export to Layar 3D (.l3d) format? I have a potential client I'm talking to who needs his models exported in that format. He says most 3D programs can do it but I don't see anything for LW. If I can't do it in LightWave I can run it though blender before sending it to him but it would be nice if I could just export and send it.

I think obj is supported by Layar 3d.

The 3D content creation guide for Layar 3D says wavefront .obj (.obj/.mtl) mesh objects are acceptable.

https://www.layar.com/documentation/browser/3d-model-converter/3d-content-creation/

You'll have to UV Map and bake any lightwave procedural textures to an image map.

He specifically said the .l3d file format though. He's using something called Giants Editor. I haven't actually looked into what that is yet.

If you go here... https://www.layar.com/documentation/browser/3d-content-creation/3d-model-converter-copy/ you can download their converter program.

Here is a guide to using it... https://www.layar.com/documentation/browser/3d-model-converter/how-to-use-3d-model-converter/

Seems to import .objs and .mtls...

That's probably the best you're gonna get. Never heard of of the format before to be honest!

Try going with different app, layar is piece of crap that works only in 1/10 times.

You mean another app for converting or something other than Layar? It's not really up to me, I briefly looked at this Giants Editor thing and it looks like .l3d is the only format it loads. So it's either the converter Kaptive mentioned (Thanks Kaptive) or blender I guess.

Download this tool
https://www.layar.com/documentation/browser/3d-content-creation/3d-model-converter-copy/
and execute command-line,
to change .obj to .l3d

After you verify this method,
you will be exporting in LW to .obj,
then running tool,
and you have .l3d

Better verify it prior getting job...
You need Java installed properly..

Well if not that I should just be able to use blender to convert it. He says their previous models are made in blender.

Sorry dude, should've been more precise. Yes, was taking about the Layar app, it's a bit of disaster, we've used it in the past and no one in my company bothered to actaully test it or read the reviews, we used ot two times but as I said it was a disstaer, just a few people manage to install it successfully on their phones(iPhones only) but it crashed anyway... I think out of 100 people only one get it working fine;)

Geeze, I've never even heard of either Layar nor Giants.
