I had a colleague ask me about the COLLADA implementation in Lightwave, but I haven't got a clue. I checked the Lightwave website, but found no answer there either. He's hoping to use something called a <brep> element? I know he is working on an exporter for Pymol, but after that it is over my head. Can anyone shed any light?

While looking for my own issue, I ran across this in the help docs.
Alembic uses v1.5.5; however, I couldn't find anything on COLLADA.

All I could find was that COLLADA v1.4.1 was implemented in LW v9.5

I did a test...I exported a simple object as a COLLADA format and then opened the file in a text editor. It looks as though 2015.3 is still using version 1.4.1

On a side note, I see in this file that it says:

<authoring_tool>Newtek Lightwave CORE v1.0</authoring_tool>

There's only 2 current versions of Collada 1.4.1 and 1.5 .
brep is a 1.5 feature that deals with curves and surfaces from CAD like applications.
Like Schwyhart said LW is 1.4.1

Thanks for figuring that out Schwyhart! ...and thanks for confirming clintonman. I guess my friend will need to take another approach.

Collada is a dead format, avoid! Had a client that was persistent about it because SceneKit is using it - they had some issues with Alembic.

It's good format tho to export to shapeways.com tho...
