The current native Bone Split function will only split bones (easily) in multiples of 2.

BT_Bonebreaker is apparently a legacy version, which allows you to split a bone into any number, but may have issues.

As pictured here, where I've split a bone midway in a chain into 4 sub-bones using the Spline option. This makes a hash of my geometry.
Is this accurate?

Is there a replacement for 11.6.3?

Is there a replacement for 2015?

It's hard to tell but the bones look okay to me. Did you re-rest them? (Select all the bones, Ctrl-R, then R.)


Edit #1: took another look at your screen cap and it appears the new bones are not active. Try activating them. If it still looks funky, try the above steps.

Edit #2: I assumed that this image is of the rest pose/frame for the geometry. If not, the bones should be in the rest pose for the geometry before you do the above. Otherwise, you may get a mess.
