Hi wavers! I am trying to make a rollercoaster in layout.
I have found dpkit spline deformer to be the best solution so far, but i canīt do the magic on the animation side.
The nodal defomation is ok, but to how to make the "wagon" follow the rail?
I am trying with dpkit spline deformer inside nodal motion but only position, not rotation.

I don't know anything about dpkit spline deformer but I would think Lightwave's spline control would be perfect for animation of a roller coaster. Around 4 minutes into this video there is an example of moving items along a spline: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHAtN-gpyh8

In a Motion context,
you should use the Covered Distance or the Covered Percent input.

To Lertola2: the "problem" about native spline is that it is not a deformer, you need bones to modify the mesh.

??? It sounds like you're mixing "motion" and "deformation" --'follow the track' would imply motion, not deformation.

I am trying to do both. The spline deforms the rail and drives the motion of the wagon.
Denis, i have tried the covered distance and covered percent without success. I will post a compressed content as soon as i can.

Yes, at least in the DP Instancer node editor,
may be in the native Instancer too.

I think some features have been added to Spline Control since its recording: I believe you can both Import a Modeler Spline , and Export a Spline TO LWM. These features have been IIRC added via scripting.

Thank you jeric. Rebelhill videos are a treasure, sure.
Now i have a native spline deforming-instancing-animating working rollercoaster and a dpkit spline deforming-animating but not yet instancing one. The deformation in the last one is far better (smother) but i can not instance along the spline.

Basically it works almost like in Motion node editor,
using one of the two 'Covered' input,
except that you need probably to insert an Instance Info node
for offsetting instance placement along the spline,
but depends of your scene.
