Is there a way to convert a bunch of sprayed points into nulls in layout easily?

That's gonna make an ugly Scene Editor.

Here's a thread but I'm not sure anybody got anything to work:

its about 30 points =)

lets me attach instances to each null so i can move them around (placement purpoes)
this is one example where modeler and layout separation is quite annoying

unless there is a way to move points around in layout =)

We cross posted. Look above.

To move individual points around in Layout, assign a different w.map to each and use Bones-- actually, Skelegons would be a better workflow.. I guess you'd want some sort of auto w.mapper.

ah good idea - i'll try that

I did this once: IIRC there's a script to create a w.map for every Skelegon. Or something. It's very possible w.maps aren't even required, try it first, 'cuz otherwise that's a heap o' typin'.

Can you use the Extend tool on a single point? If so, that would give you your polyline to turn into a skelegon.

if you convert to one point polys yes...not standard points as I know of...after creating points, you can go to create/make 1 point poly, the hit e for extend..and nothing seem to have happen until you move or size it.

moving points is also possible with appliance of soft, or cloth fx and edit them, and also animate them, but the movement will be screwed up if you resim or remove those modifiers.

for particles you can edit, delete, move particles with edit fx.

There's always this: http://stephenculley.blogspot.co.uk/2013/09/lscript-modelerpointnormaltoskelegon.html

In the image the skelegons look like they are created on points, so not sure if this is the wrong way around as a solution.
Still, it might be useful!!

Not sure if you still need it,
this is a small point 2 null layout plugin I quickly did
just to get myself into programming mode again. (windows, lw 11 and above, if you need it for a lower version, just reply)

This has just been tested 3 times on a basic scene or so, so might be buggy.

if you need it to apply it to a subdivision object, do reduce the subdivision level to 0 first

select the points in modeler
convert to one point polygons
select the one point polygons
under setup tab Add/Edit PGons and type - AddNull "myNulls"\rAddPosition \c\rCreateKey 0
load into layout and Cvt Powergons

now you have nulls where the points are
