View Full Version : lw and dp kit lights

Is there a definitive web page or info out there on lightwave light types?

I'm looking to understand the fall off settings, linear, inverse ect.

I'm also looking to find out more about these photometric lights and the file you load to make them work, and what if any are the benefits of using them.

I've seen dp kit's light web page, and that helps a little.

The manual covers the falloffs pretty well.
Photometric lights use IES files. You get them from the manufacturer of the bulb. Their benefit is that they mimic the ray pattern and intensity along the illumination envelope of the actual bulb/fixture in question, as this data is sampled from the bulb itself. Note that IES lights, while their ray pattern and falloff is actual, LightWave doesn't know about real world intensity values. So, you're still stuck with "adjust it until it looks right".
