Hello People!

I wanted to share with the Lightwave community our latest work.

https://vimeo.com/128599435

In Juan Solo VFX Studio (http://www.juansolo.com.ar) we created a realisitc 3D Rooster for this funny ad from La Campagnola.
This job was commisioned by Bitt for Kepel & Mata agency.
The 3D part (Modelling, Texturing, Rigging, Sculpting, Lighting, Tracking) was completely done by me with Lightwave and Zbrush. Compositing in Nuke by my partner in JS, Pablo Zamparini.
Animation by Alejandro Ohanian (Bitt).
It was about one month of work, with almost half of it looking for the perfect shading/texturing/integration with the live action.

Being a really small studio, we are really proud of this piece. I hope you guys also like it.
Ask me whatever question you may have!
Thanks!!

Saw this posted on Facebook... it's absolutely superb!!! Sort of hyper-real, extremely realistic, but almost stylised realism!
Brilliant animation, and beautiful modelling and texturing!

GREAT WORK!

Thank you all, guys!
Gracias David!!!

As fas as rigging, it was just a basic old style bones plus a few joints that drive some especific morphs (blink, wide open, cheek, frown)

For the hair/feathers I used Zbrush's fibermesh and the exported this as geometry. Sure it was heavy as sh*t to move in layout, I had to keep it hidden most of the time, sometimes in 0 subd.
But I prefer this rather than fight over an over with FiberFx's bugs and issues.Didn't had the time also. Since it is actual geometry it was easy to lit, no "lies" or "tricks". Although it was a little tricky to texture since they are strips of polys.

The skin surface is a classic skin with a few nodes handling some tweaking in the displacement via joints.

Actually it's geometry. I exported the fibermesh from zbrush as subd polygon stripes.
Congrats on your artist profile!!!

That's really beautiful! The rooster has a lot of passion! I love the tongue animation.

It reminds me (just a little) of the 'chicken monkey' the Box created way back in 2004. I designed and modeled the the basic character, and Andrew Harlow made it pretty by texturing and layering hundreds (thousands?) of animate-able feathers using a combination of Random Cloner and pure manual labor. Our commercial is a bit dated and not nearly as classy by comparison but, for whatever it's worth, here's what we did using Lightwave 8.0 (Note: Lightwave was only used in two shots--the rest was a real rooster. Yes, I know you can tell but we only had a couple of weeks to make this commercial.): Cornflakes with Real Bananas (http://adland.tv/commercials/corn-flakes-real-bananas-rooster-2004-030-usa)

Anyway, I really love what you guys did with your rooster! Thanks for sharing that.
