..like the title says, is this possible?? I would have thought LW did this out of the box but apparently not (this app sure does work in strange ways sometimes which defy logic) This has been a pet niggle for some time now and would also consider purchasing a plugin to help with this.

Mass editing and automation isn't one of the strongest areas in the program. A hacky way would be to edit the lws file in a text editor. It wouldn't be the most elegant or easiest workflow. But it should work as long as you know what your doing.

having a quick look at the scene file in text editor, I can see how this could possibly be done by copy/pasting the motion modifier into the other objects but it would be easier to copy and paste the actual motion modifier in layout one at a time (x100! ouch...) Infuriating!!!,,,,,,,,

Unfortunately it isn't... and in scripting I could not find a way to do it directly. As a result, I made mass motion specifically to deal with stuff like this. Demo video explains:

Mass motion can also be used to mass-edit motion modifiers, particle effects, and anything else whose properties can be transferred via cloning.

It is commercial, but it comes bundled with RR Tools (http://www.liberty3d.com/citizens/ryan-roye/ryan-royes-commercial-plugins/) which has tools that'll make any motion graphic animator's life easier; the "average" tools are a must-have and are super simple to use. PM me if you want a discount coupon :)

Check your PMs. Looks like I'm going to have to update Mass Motion to be compatible with the latest Lightwave update.

Ryan thanks again.. MassMotion is great. A clever workaround to lacking functionality, robustly implemented and works as you'd expect it to (in 11.6.3 anyway). I wonder in what other ways this will come in handy now this limitation has been lifted.

Mass motion = Nice!

another way is to learn AHK, takes time, but it's absolutely worth it.

personally i'd go with both, just haven't gotten around to getting Mass Motion

I'd eventually like to see Mass Motion become obsolete by having the ability to "paste" things like nodal motion and stuff by simply selecting things. I consider it a stopgap tool to bridge that functionality to users until that happens.

Matt's changes to the surface UI panel in LW2015 is a great example of the kind of copy/paste control I'd like to see in other parts of the UI. (IE: you can paste just the nodes, or just a particular tab).

wow AHK is off the hook! This could potentially replace many of my system add-ons.
