Carbon3D calls the method Continuous Liquid Interface Production technology (CLIP) and it harnesses light and oxygen to cure a photosensitive resin. It is similar to Stereolithography (SLA) where a laser or projector cures a photosensitive resin, but it is not quite SLA.

judging by the size that would take my printer about 45min- 1.5 hr to complete...so ya pretty fast, but I wonder if you would be locked into some proprietary materials....

FDM printing can use quite a lot of different materials...I have done some nylon prints that have over 4000lbs tensile strength.

My Fuji Xerox printer cost that much for 2d printing, including duplexing!
