ok, i vote for a ship destroying button in lightwave.

cool stuff in star citizen - carve off sections of a ship with a gattling gun.

the after shows ship infrastructure and areas of hull missing.

Lightwave has things like polks acid, and surface effectors, but how else would you do that in lightwave?

Impressive the level games are getting.

That not only looks like an impressive bit of technology, it looks like a lot of fun.

May even you could replicate the process with Bullet and the forementioned Worley plugins. But in real-time, not even close to what's in that YT clip.

particles can create indents in objects if it is divided a lot and using cloth fx which recognizes particle collisions, would work for indents..but for actually tearing..not sure.

The Great Ryan Roye seem to have a commercial tutorial covering similar stuff....

I watched the clip with the audio off, seemed pretty realistic to me. :D

The pilot remained remarkably calm.

Fortunately there was nothing flammable onboard the craft.

Given the lack of an actual explosion, the damage was impressive.

Well, presuming those were some kind of railgun-based projectile weapon*, depending on delta-v and round composition, damage shown wasn't actually so ridiculous.

OTOH, didn't find the case where being hit (shot through in many cases) led to rotation of the smaller craft very realistic. Either the round's energy would be transferred to the ship momentum OR the round would vaporize itself and the ship part continuing on way through. "Both" isn't really viable without "exotic matter" rounds (and/or morally-equivalent sci-fi hand-waving).

*: I'm chosing to gloss over the "visible exit velocity" issue -- were the rounds really moving that slow in flight, none of what was shown was very "physically plausible".

its going to be a real fun game - 100gb means lots of cool ships and stuff. Its really the first space game i'm seeing with super high details.
the other one is elite dangerous is another one that looks really nice, one among about a dozen of super nice looking space sims popping up.

Star citizen certainly is going to be one of the best games on the PC. It's got funding of 70 million so says youtube.
