View Full Version : Shared project

We would like to establish system and rules for shared projects. Is there any good way (tips) how 2 or more people can work on one project from different locations within LW?
One final scene, cooperation on models, scene etc. I guess people around projects like Iron Sky had to have this kind of system in place.
I would be happy for any help.

you can pack your scene under the file menu. Puts everything you need into a directory you can zip and send.

Yes. This way I know. But if I want to work online on one project for several days with more people I will need better system.

I do this a lot, you just use drop box. Share the project folder on the DB and everyone works out of it.

There's always https://www.shotgunsoftware.com/. But that cost 30 bucks a user. If you want to try to set up your own server, then you can try out Tactic. http://www.southpawtech.com/tactic/. This free/open source they say. You can set up a local network easy. If your trying to have access to files over the net. They have instruction on how to set that up.

I'ts not the same scenario but we sometimes work on scenes that share assets and we rely on two things basically. 1. comunication "I am going to make changes to such and such object, if you have it on your scene don't modify it cause you will lose the changes, the changes to be made are : Bla bla. Ok, changes have been made, reload your scene" 2. Turn auto-save on in the lightwave preferences in case someone rewrites something you were working on.

In past projects that required collaboration the project manager had me use Bittorrent Sync, a peer-to-peer method of sharing files. It worked seamlessly.
