I needed to do some poly reduction.
in 11.6.2 is there a native plug in for this now?

i searched for decimate and qemloss - old ones i used to use
and both do not work under 11.6.2
it gives an error when i add the plug in. so they wont even load into modeler.

what are people using for poly reduction these days.
I think i can use 3dcoat, but i'll have to play with that i saw some sort of poly reducing thing when exporting.

Check the Reduce menu > Polygons > Reduce Polys and Reduce Polys +.

I think there is qemloss 3 to download somewhere, it's preserves UV's as well.

Thanks Ztreem, I didn't know about this and at present use Quemloss2, already very good. ZBrush decimate is very powerful for objects with millions of polys.
(Note worth experimenting after using these by turning the tris back to quads if you want to work in SubDs)

the benefit with qemloss 3 over 2 is the ability to preserve UV's if you have created those before reducing mesh. You also have the ability to use a weight map to control where on the model you want to do the reduction. Would be nice if LW3DG could buy and include qemloss3 as standard instead of qemloss2...

A really nice third party standalone program I use all the time is Balancer nPro (http://www.atangeo.com/buy/nPro) by Atangeo. It provides a lot of interactivity in how and where the decimation occurs in your object and it preserves the UV map too. (Only one UV map though.) I've use it for terrain objects and other organic things I've sculpted in 3D Coat where I'm not terribly concerned about polygon flow, just maximum reduction and accuracy.

I have another program called SubD Recovery (http://www.mariussilaghi.com/products/subd-recovery). It's not really a decimation program but what it does is it reconstructs a mesh's pre-subdivided state. Useful for those heartsinking 'oops' moments. :)
