Bob, how does the final differ from the demo? More wipes, etc ? I know the black bar goes away but just wanted to know if there is anything new included.

Thanks,

Bobt

There is about 40 wipes included.
(to be honest I didnt count em all)

Demo had 2 to make the download small.
RTV and RTV with Alpha support was added.
I am not sure this was in the old demo release.
Its in the newer demo release though.
Besides that, cant think of much.

Hey Bob,

I get a 404 when I try to go to you softFX page on your site.

Is this normal?

Bobt

No,
Guess I should not make pages at 5AM. :D
Download the demo and check it out.
That should give you more explanation then a web page.
I am at work so cant fix it until tonight.

Bob, does the SoftFX have the same content as the EdgeFX?

Bobt
12-01-2003, 02:25 PM
No, EdgeFX is actually something I was going to attempt but in the current Newtek world is a bit to difficult for me to accomplish quickly at this time. I am still looking at different new ways
to do it though :)
In general EdgeFX is based on the same concept as
SoftFX just applied in a totally different way.
So although similar the are totally different animals.

Hey Bob,

how does one control the speed of the wiping other than stretching out the effect?

Can we have different speeds for wipe in and wipe out?

Looks great and is great to have a new toy for VT

Yeah no problem use the opacity spline in the control
panel.
It makes for some real smooth wipes.

Let me be more explict. You click on the plugin then go
to the cotnrol panel you shoule see 2 splines there.
One is setup the other is opacity.
Well the opacity controls the wipe on and wipe off.
When you influence the modes you can make some cool
effects.

The setup spline is for bringing back the spline.

I am a little behind Bob.

Do these plugins allow me to see the Premeir PRo output in t3?

OR are these premeir FX things that would later be brought into t3 as file assetts?

Kurt,

This is a Newtek Toaster Edit plugin.
A real plugin that works in Toaster Edit.
I took a break from working on Premiere to
work on TED plugins for a bit. Back onto Premiere
soon.

Why SoftFX.
Well it all started when I was trying to use TED for the
first time. I just got the SDK from Andrew so I thought
I would do a little video piece get my feet wet and see
whats going on in there. I really hadnt used TED much.
I am such a die hard Premiere user. But
hey, with the SDK maybe I can do something that
can help out a bit and make a few bucks.
So far I have identifed the need for at least 5 plugins
but only have time for a couple. (need to get back to
Premiere)

The first plugin need I saw was when I was trying to
do a section of this piece where there was a talking head.
(it was my real background.)
I dropped on a Juicer for a lower third.
OK, now just wipe on the talents name over the lower
third and I, I, I, I couldnt do it.
So, BobsSoftFX for the Toaster was born.
I said you just got to be able to do this! You have to be
able to make wipes on layers and keep the clips Alpha.

So I coded and added a TGA with alpha mixer for stills
an RTV with Alpha mixer so if you want to wipe on animated stuff
overlays GO fot it.

Or regular OLD RTV support. I am thinking of other file formats
and enhancements already but, there is are other plugins
that will make everyone a little happier so maybe later.

You have alot of wipes to start with but can add your own.
The wipes are controled by splines so you can have fun making
the jump back and forth if you want.

I just received the Soft FX plugin last night and it is definitely sweet! One thing I'd love to see is support for PNG files so that I could use the files that VT CG spits out automatically, instead of having to convert to TGA.

The plugin rocks!

I agree that PNG support is essential. RTV support is awesome, but going back to TGA with all it's problems in Photoshop... yuk! PNG please, pretty please!

Bob, here is a link to PNG source code, tookits, and other programming resources:

Thanks for the plugin Bob, I will be ordering this week!

Here is a couple of more images to wet your whistles.

First a better view of wipes panel. So you can see that
you get more than 2 :)
http://www.toastergarage.com/bobssoftfx/images/screenshot4.gif

Next the image of how you control the wipe. You do it through
the Opactiy Spline. Its makes for a some very smooth wipes.

Thats about it. Hope this helps show you how things go..
