Hello all,

We are doing alot of .STL work for a client.

And now having several mesh issues, mainly because of triangular meshes.

Is there several steps we can take to convert these guys into Quad meshes instead?

I would assume likely not (or at least without sig. amounts of time). Hence my embarrassment for even asking.

I nosed around Modeler all day to see of some new tool came out in v11 to not waste anyone's time, but I haven't found a good solution yet!

I know it sounds crazy, I just don't run into these types of issues very often and I'm still pretty far behind sometimes on some of LW (old and new) technical abilties.

Thanks everyone.

Try this (free) plugin to convert tris to quads automatically:

i needed this last week.....didn't think one existed

Helps alot for modifying 3d printing meshes....as STL's are usually tris and the poly flow can be horrid to try to change

Glad this is solved, but didn't the native Polygon Reduction tools cut any mustard?

There is a native tool in LW 11 called 'merge triangles' or something similar.

Neither the native tool or the above free plug-in do a complete job (for me).

Try MeshLab - it looks daunting but is quite simple.
Go MeshLab > Filters > Remeshing, Simplification and Reconstruction > Tri to Quad (there's 2 options).

PS I would add an image but currently I can't attach to vBulletin.

If MeshLab is that sexy, perhaps it should be on the "must-have freebies" list.

I have meshlab on my system...just tested it on a triangulated object exported with obj, the weird thing is that I donīt see it converted to quads..only adding more triīs, maybe I have set the display wrong?
no lwo import as I can see either.

Cool - the first mentioned is also on the official plugin db: https://www.lightwave3d.com/assets/plugins/contains/merge/ - https://www.lightwave3d.com/assets/plugins/entry/mergetrigonsx/
