Having just glimpsed xSwampyx's old Bullet machine video, I was wondering:

Is Bullet now capable of simulating a working worm drive?

I don't see why not?

Well, MANY things SHOULD work that don't. 8~

Did it? 'Cuz that would be cool! --Wait, is that one of the 2015 samples?

Yep it works fine. Call that sample number 2016! :D

Is there really any reason to animate this using physics though? other than the nice warm fuzzy feeling you'd get from it....

Seems like a lot of faffing to animate something that would take a few seconds to do manually.

Not really, but the motor has force and the objects have mass, so it accelerates up to speed in quite a convincing way. And just because! :D

It MIGHT be a bit faster to animate if the client were exceedingly indecisive and changing speeds constantly.

Things LOCKED together like cogs and linkages might be better to relate to each other via Expressions, but building those Expressions will be beyond most users' capabilities.

Hi XswampyX. Would you mind sharing that scene? I'm having a hard time understanding what goes where, even though it's a simple rig!

Motion options --> same as item --> choose channel to drive anim ---> DONE ;)
No need for expressions :tsktsk:

No probs...

I believe with "linkages" you'd probably need to do some math? Or are you talking more of a 'Cycler' type relationship?

And "SAI", doesn't allow multipliers, does it? In any gear situation except 1:1 one needs a multiplier.

It does and you can go "minus" with it to move/rotate in the opposite direction. The painful part it getting the maths right to get cogs of varying sizes to fit.

Thanks XswampyX, very generous of you!

Looks like I better shut up and dig into the Motions Panel.

One reason to use Bullet on this would be if the worm were driven by a xSwampyx-esque 'waterfall'. ( Saved! ;) )

(Right? Or is that info available???)

For you, Jeric!

Quick gears setup. No Bullet, just Same As Item:

Nice! ::tip-o-the-hat::

I been schooled!

I admit I've now been racking my brains to figure out gear setups that WOULD require(-ish) Bullet. I'm thinking maybe Geneva Wheel???????
