Take my money please. Yes - where is the upgrade buy button from 4.51 to 5.0?

Scratches head, have v4.2, can freely download v 4.51 with current license but email says purchase of full or upgrade to v 4.51 gets you a free v5 license, so where is the pricing for v 4+ owners upgrading to v 5, can't be free ? (you beat me to it )

Are these nurbs non-destructive?
A non-destructive extrude shape from splines would be nice something like rope editor where you can still edit the spline and change the shape of the rope.

But does it import CAD files and render nurbs in layout? That would be really nice..... probably not...

Why does NT does not make an offer and make this man the de facto developer of next gen modeller is mystery to me.

Regarding upgrade for current 4.5.1 users... i think 5 is still a little way off from being released and that is why Viktor is offering free upgrades to version 5 for anyone purchasing 4.5.1 or upgrading to 4.5.1. So no doubt we'll get our upgrade price when he's ready to release version 5.

You can import .ai currently (just use EPS import). It does have to be v8 or lower though.

His site is updated with the pricing:

$164 upgrade pricing from 4.51 :D

I'm drooling for this one.

No, that is to upgrade from previous version to version 4.51. There is no upgrade price right now to upgrade to 5 from 4.51

Dang. Sorry for the bad info.

It's going to be open Beta until the end of 2014. So we'll probably get to know upgrade price in the new year.

If the price is scaling down from that, I'm guessing it might be $100 to upgrade to 5 from 4.51. But we'll just have to wait to see.

Yer, it was about 80 last time, I seem to remember.

What makes you think that the price of a v4 - v5 upgrade would scale down from what the price of a v3 - v4 upgrade was?

Was upgrading from v3.x - 4.0 cheaper than upgrading from v3.x - 4.51 is, or am I misunderstanding?

I think I paid $140 which would be in the 85 - 90 region. I wouldn't be surprised to see the v5 upgrade at around the $150 mark, but I'd be glad to be wrong.

The more recent version you have, the cheaper it has been to update. It was more apparent before he updated the website for the LWCAD 5 news. You would see that he charged more for people to upgrade from version 2 then from version 3. Version 1 owners have to pay full price and aren't eligible for upgrades.

Yeah I see what you mean, but the above was when going from 3 - 4, you really think going from 4 -5 might be cheaper?

I'm assuming it would be. For instance, why would it make sense for someone to be rewarded for never having upgraded to version 4.51 by giving them 4.51 + version 5 for $164 and penalize those who are already at version 4.51 by charging them more then that? My assumption would be that it will be the same price or less. But again, we'll just have to wait for Viktor to set the pricing.

Of course, another alternative to consider would be that this is special pre-release pricing and maybe the price will go up once version 5 is released. Either way, I'm sure LWCAD 5 will be worth the asking price.

Yeah, I only mentioned it because you know, LightWavers and money. I wouldn't say no to him offering a pre-release special for v4 users, but even without I'm sure it will indeed be worth the asking price.

Could Victor address the text tool issue in lightwave and attract people outside archiviz?
Text tools are so vital for mograph.

I only have one question about LWCAD5, will it need LW11.5? If so, then sadnees for me. If it works on 9.6 then woohoo, I barely use LW anymore, but LWCAD is the ONLY reason I even use it at all so an upgrade to that, even on my extremely limited budget, is a must have. Supporting Viktor is worth it. :)

Nurbs aren't supported in Layout, right? If they were possible would it mean non-destructive modelling? Hope it's simple for LW3dG to implement in the next update.

NURBS have nothing to do with history & modifier stacks..

Currently, you won't be able to render NURBS surfaces in Layout, but you can model with them and freeze them into regular polygons. Talking to Viktor early on, I know he would like to get LW3DG to support them in Layout for rendering but that ball is in LW3DG's court.

As far as non-destructive editing, that would require history/modifier stack which LW does not have. The closest thing to non destructive editing with LWCAD is the ability to use LWCAD instances which allow you to swap out different library assets (doors, windows, etc...) at any point in the process. The only drawback to this is that instances in LWCAD are 'placeholders' for actual objects and don't render and have to be frozen to be seen in Layout. Again, just another LW limitation due to lack of history/modifier stack.

I've no idea what I was thinking when asking that question about modelling! You've just answered what I was thinking, hrgiger, with the point about freezing NURBS to polys - there's an additional step to get them into layout.
