Using analog circuits, a cathode ray tube, and a body suit with potentiometers- animated bones, skin, joints, wrinkles, eyes, and moving lips, all drawn in sequence to create a "cathode ray marionette."

I saw this as a kid, waiting in line for the River Boat Ride at Six Flags of TX, in early 70s. There was a TV monitor set up to entertain people, with one of these real-time animated characters. Some guy hidden from view on a microphone would talk to people, and the character wiggled and the lips moved in synch with his voice. I never knew how the hell that worked until now.

1970 Sesame Street, computer SCANIMATED short, featuring "Limbo" (rubber band face) created by Jim Henson. This was creepy-cool to me as a kid.

All those examples were truly awesome. I loved Turn On Dancer especially.
