Could anybody tell me what would cause my transparency/refraction to cut a hole in my render. Shouldn't it show through whats in the background?

Also is there any way in lightwave to render mattes based on materials not just mesh layers? so if I have several meshes in one layer can I isolate a specific mesh within it to a render pass?

Ray Recursion Limit. Increase it. The number of allotted rays are eaten up by the number of surfaces that they pass through. It is a way to cut render time by truncating ray calculation past the point where they are just a waste of cycles. So, what is happening is that the glass surfaces consume the allotted rays and calculation stops.
