just installed the demo of plant factory, initial feelings is varied...have to get back on it.

I am curious about the point cache, if you set up the wind, I managed to load it as xml in mdd reader in lightwave, but the tree becomes completly screwed up, I guess that might have something to do with the
Ple version that is removing some polygons.
Unfortunatly that is also making it hard to see the quality of the tree.

First impressions arenīt good, it looks good on some tutorials, but I feel it to be slow to work with, geometry output isnīt quads, and I am not fond of the UI, so your better of with working with treedesigner or dpont_verdure for free.
the content is lacking in the ple version..only a few trees to choose from..maybe the full version has much more?

If I had some serious work to do that could pay decently for a showcase of majestic trees etc...Then the choice would probably fall on cinema speed tree even though it has itīs price tag, plant factory is a little of a dissapointment so far, compared to when I tested how it was to try out speed tree cinema demo.

The new speedtree cinema with subdivision output is impressive, and you can actually edit each branch as you want ..and it adapts dynamicly to the subdivision model, sort of like metamesh moving and blending objects.
seem to be a new cage tool, which looks similar to dp_verdure and tree designer..so you donīt have to draw branches..instead use a cage for fast creation of branches.

Thanks...the leaf billboards are similar to vue, doesnīt work out very well for close up shots, since they are pretty big billbords with branch and leafs, and as such they show up as very flat when zoomed in on, might work for
distant shots.

But I will check in to it ..maybe...after all, if you are not about to apply as gardener for the next avatar movie and thus having the speed tree purchase justified, then dp_verdure might be enough for now:)

I do wish the lightwave tech might start to showcase procedural workflow with history, that could open up for re editing of the dp_verdure branch skelegons, in a similar way as editing with nodes.

uhmm.. I donīt think so, trying to bend or curve big billboard plates would probably yield weird looking leafs, best looking leafs do have more individual polys per leaf and thus with different angle and rotation, that will not look so flat, but please go ahead and try that if you got the time, besides...it would increase poly count much more.

I have missed that rt smooth plugin, is it available in the lightwave plugin database?

maybe, maybe not, hard to say, could work from my experience...

well, you'll never get around that if you want more detail.

best is to use lowres in background, highres close to cam...
