View Full Version : How to Transform geometry by the polygon normals?

The light colored blue band is too thick and I would like to make it thinner. Below shows the outer polys selected(1). How can I move them closer to the edge loop (2)? Not sure what command to use. Seems like there should be a 'transform along poly normals' command? If so, I can't find it. TIA!

Try Point Normal Move under Modify - Translate - More.

Nope, that doesn't work. It translates by the point normals and not the poly normals--much different results. Any other ideas?

I figured it out for those interested. Use the MovePlus command and then RIGHT-CLICK to move the polys along the normal. Also, the new Edit Edge can accomplish basically the same thing by

Erikals finds ANOTHER obscure, yet welcome, behavior.

Between this and SELECT PATTERN he's become the foremost LWM function spelunker.

Definitely a LightWIKI article in this.

Since the RMB-TRANSLATE thing is so, IMO, obscure I simply made a duplicate button and renamed it with a reminder of how that works.

I wonder if smooth scale would work in this situation as well.
