Hey guys,
I am doing a last minute LW animated project that needs for one of the character to do a "Tasmanian Devil" type tornado.
For those not familiar with looney tunes, here is what I am talking about:

Any tips guys?

Does it have to look realistic or cartoony?

I am trying a hybrid approach.
Maybe use sculpted geometry for the blur?

Cone, subpatch, displacement.

Yeah, I would say RH's idea would be the first place to start and then layering procedural. You could also add in some circular tube shapes that could spin around the main volume if you need more defined areas. The shapes would be discs that off the origin with a partial lathe. You could also add a layer of particle emitters that are orbiting around the center mass too.

Experiment with the inertia displacement modifier (go into object properties, deform tab); it's very easy to use and you can customize some parameters. It might be a quick way to get the effect you want. Beware of using this on dense geometry, however as it will slow the scene down.

#afc, but does INERTIA work with W.maps? 'Cuz that would be good.

yes. You can also define the pivot point if the pivot of the model isn't what you want.

Of course, the SOUND is a big part of the effect. I wonder how they made it?

Thanks for your ideas guys.
We ended doing a lot of layers in post to make the look work.
