View Full Version : Symmetry mode slow?

Hi,

I'm modelling a human character but when turning on Symmetry it all gets real slow, it takes seconds to move single points around. This isn't only in subdivision mode, but in normal mode also, in morph maps etc.

What is the problem?

When symmetry mode is turned on, tool has to find vertex by position -x,y,z
the more geometry you have, the more vertexes is moved simultaneously, the more time will be spend on finding symmetric point.
How much points do you have in object?

BTW, have you seen TrueArt's Virtual Mirror from Modeling Pack (http://modelingpack.trueart.eu)?
ftp://ftp.newtek.com/pub/LightWave/Tutorials/Vidz/Vmirror.mov
(it's video made by William Vaughan with voice)

It's real-time mirroring object while LW is working at the same time parallel.

The polycount is 23.000, but the layer I'm working in is 18.000 poly.
Now I thought I'd hide all the unneeded poly's but that doesn't change anything.

For your suggestion, it is a nice looking plugin, but when making morph maps it's useless because I don't want everything to be symmetrical.
The way I'm doing it now is that I copy the body layer to a new file, make my morph and copy that back, this is not the most effective way to work as you might understand...
Thanks,
Ruud

Maybe this is solution?
