View Full Version : Images files not found when loading objects...

I got some buildings models in OBJ format to load. But even if I put all the textures jpegs in the image folder, LW cannot find them. Theres hundreds of pictures, I dont want to do it manually.

The project is not on the C drive, its on the network.

Greetings, if you have set your Content Directory to your project and you have put your textures within the "Images" folder, if you're asked to link one image LightWave should see the rest and automatically link everything else in the "Images" folder.

Just to be certain, please verify the folder is "Images" and not "image".

OBJ files often include a .mat file that defines the materials and textures. Copy that to your working folder if you can.

Tried it, no luck. I notice the "Cant find the file "......") dialog is trying to search the image in the Objects folder. I guess because the .mat file is linked so.

Just tried to move the folder on the C drive, didn't help at all. I think I'm going to try on the PC. I'm on mac now.

.mat .mtl .obj are text file format.
So you can load them to text editor (f.e. ConText) and replace paths that you will find there.
Get rid of directories, leave just file name, using batch replace or so.

I tried to put the buildings_alternate_files folder in my images folder but its not working. Im at a lost.

UPDATE: Well well well, it work on the PC with no problem at all. Damn, I was not planning to work on the PC... (its not yet fully installed). I guess I'll made my switch earlier then.

Thanks for the help. I still dont know what's going on with the Mac but it least I can work on the project.

Paths are in Windows format with \
On Mac they are with /

If you would simply replace all "buildings_alternate_files\tex\" to "", and place images in base folder, it should work on Mac.

Trivial information if you are curious as to why this is.

Mac, Unix, web, pretty much everything uses / for directories but Windows uses \ It's a DOS legacy problem when DOS commands used the / (forward slash) as a "switch" to modify a command.
chkdsk D: /f will check disc D: and fix errors
