Is there any well to do a rail extrude and taper at the same time? I'm trying to draw a snail shell which needs to get smaller as it winds toward the center of the shell.

How about the Seashell tool (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cb-JwXDInFY&feature=kp)?

Other than that you can use pxBezier (https://www.lightwave3d.com/assets/plugins/entry/px_bezier/), for example, to extrude and taper at the same time.

Use two rails.

I don't believe the sea shell tool is still in v11.6. OOPS, I stand corrected, I didn't see it in the list.

Yeah a lot of good tips, use two rails, or use px_bezier with extend.

not mentioned yet,Cm_loft
you can create profile rails with spline curves, or use polys for the profiles if they have the same point count...select the curves or poly profiles and run the cm loft command, cm loft is free....search for it in the lightwave plugin database.

Magic bevel allows you to extrude and taper, and it's built into LW.

Just played around with magic bevel, never bothered to open up its numeric panel before, it's actually a really useful tool with a lot of control. I'd never taken it seriously until now.

you could use a helix and make it tight , use the spline and rail extrude then taper ... * just a thought

pxBezier brilliant plugin ... sometimes a little unstable but when it works it does the job well ... should be standard in modeler if I am honest

and if it could be a little improved to add a bridge mode along with tube, face, line, belt etc..that would be awesome, just adapt the bezier bridge tool in to px_bezier, now add the functions of px_cworm, that would be some serious one multitool for tubes, spline curves, polygons, extension, and bridging etc..

Many thanks to Artur for providing these...

I think we also missed to mentioned his nipponites plugin..also helpful for seashells or natural extrusion with options to add ribbings along the extrusions..see screenshot.
